Japan: Taylor Fritz, the reigning Champion and world's number 10, secured his win at the Japan Open 2023 first-round match on Tuesday against the world's number 8, Britain's Cameron Norrie, by a 6-4, 6-3 score. Fritz expressed his readiness and motivation to compete as he eased his load pre-tournament. Fritz commenced the Tokyo 2023 Title and suggested that it turned out to be less fatigued in his favour.

The number one seed in Tokyo said, "After the US Open, I think I had played the most matches of anyone on tour; I thought it made sense to start the Asia swing in Shanghai. I feel motivated and ready to play."

"I feel like I played a couple of excellent points to break, and I played the bigger, more important points better in the return games. I definitely upped my level," he added.

Fritz recorded 13 aces and secured three breaks against Norrie, in his head-to-head record to 7 wins and 6 losses against the British player. The 25-year-old American player will play round two with Shintaro Mochizuki.

Fritz is currently the highest-ranking American globally, and he overcame his initial setback to dispatch Cameron Norrie in the first-round match at the Tokyo 2023 Tournament.

Alex De Minaur beat Jack Draper, and Casper Ruud progressed in the first-round match as he defeated the Number Two Japanese Player, Yosuke Watanaki.

Draper had the opening to serve for the match in the third set, but the Australian player took the chance at all three stages at the Japan Open Tokyo 2023. World's number 13, De Minaur smoothly triumphed with a 4-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(1) Score and prepares to face Diego Schwartzman in the second round.

Draper had won the first-round match in Wimbledon 2022 against De Minaur and did the same in Tokyo 2023 to clinch the opener at 6-4 after making a breakpoint in the seventh game of the set. However, De Minaur took the second set by a four-game run at 4-2, leading to serve the deciding set till the ninth game when Draper secured a break to lead by 5-4.

The Norwegian player, Casper Ruud, also scored a 7-6(6), 6-3 victory to move to round two with Marcos Giron.

US Open Semi-Finalist Ben Shelton has passed through round one after defeating Number 3 Japanese Player Taro Daniel with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(2). Daniel has contested toe to toe with Shelton at Wimbledon, but it's a thing of the past now. Three months later, Shelton conquers regardless of whether the match becomes complicated.

The Asian Swing 2023 culminated with the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) 500 Tournament in Tokyo, following preceding tournaments in Zhuhai, Chengdu, Beijing, and Shanghai. The Tokyo 2023 32-player event draw was revealed last Saturday and hailed a lineup of strong-seeded players, including Taylor Fritz, Cameron Norrie, Casper Ruud, Alexander Zverev, and Alex de Minaur.

The field is incredibly competitive, with Hubert Hurkacz, who made it to the Shanghai Finals and Ben Shelton, Quarter-Finalist at Shanghai, competing as unseeded players.
